HAND RANKINGS
Pretty simple stuff here, but you should know it like the "back of your hand". If you were to get involved in a game of Texas Holdem, or any other poker game and not know these, well, let's just say you would not be involved very long.

Royal Flush
The best of the best, the "nuts". Consists of an Ace High Straight with all five cards being the same suit. Nothing to worry about here. Get as many chips in the pot as you can.

Straight Flush
As close as you can get to the "nuts" without the real thing. A Straight beginning with any card lower than the Ace with all five cards being the same suit.

Four of a Kind
Should be self explanatory. Four cards that match, being either face or numbered. One of the best unless the one of the above shows itself. If that happens you may want to question the dealer..........just kidding. Play it strong.

Full House
Any Three of a Kind combined with Any Pair. Good most of the time but watch the board for a bigger possible combo or one of the above.

Flush
Any five made up of the same suit. Dangerous at time as opponent may have higher flush or one of the above.

Straight
A unsuited five card string to any number or face card high. Keep an eye on the board with this one as there are a good number of possible hands that beat you.

Three of a Kind
Like it's older brother Four of a Kind, no explanation needed. Here where the game can start to get dangerous as you see how far down the chart you are now.

Two Pair
Any two that match twice. Unless you think you are holding the top two possible combinations be very careful.

One Pair
Unless you see no other card or combination on the board that can beat you keep these to yourself and make what you can make.

High Card
Only thing you can hope for here is your hand is not quite as ugly as theirs.

Online "Tells"

Are there such things as online "tells" ? Ask ten different players and you will probably get ten different answers.

Playing online is much different then playing in a
B & M Card Room. Your not looking across the table at your opponent. In a physical card room you can look at the other player and try to access what the have from the mannerisms to their breathing pattern. No such luck online. Still there are hints you should be able to pick up on.

Betting pattern is most likely the biggest. Notice when a player has a big hand, does their betting speed slow down or speed up? Do they raise just the minimum or push their stack? Same thing when they have a weak hand. How do they present their bets?

Do they comment about their opponents hand or make a comment about their own? What do your notes say? You do remember to take notes, right? Does the player tend to slow play big hands or over play weak one?

Bottom line is though you can't "see" your opponents, you should not be any less observant then you would be at a live game. Even when you are not in the hand you should be watching for the "subtle" actions.

Tells are probably much easier to find in mid to high stakes then in low limit games. In low limit you run into many more calling stations and you simply need the best hand. Still even in low limit, never stop watching.
